Welcome To My Dinner Table – Part 8
A very current dinner table this time. In fact, this dinner took place only last night. Feeling extremely relaxed and not stressed in any way at all (very likely the after effects of my Time Out vacation) I soon realised I was a little too relaxed. One of my friends, also a dinner guest, came by early to see if I needed any help. I thought I didn’t, relaxed as I was, but suddenly I was wondering where the starter had gone. Hmmm. I hadn’t even started on it. As I said, a little too relaxed. All went well, though, no small thanks to my friend.
The Menu
Hugo Cocktail (apparently the summer cocktail as of last summer)
Individual Zucchini alla Parmigana Stacks
Bread & Homemade Herb Butter
Avocado, Broad Bean & Quinoa Salad (Yotam Ottolenghi - Plenty cookbook)
Aubergines with Buttermilk & Pomegranate (Yotam Ottolenghi - Plenty cookbook)
Mustard Stuffed Chicken (BBC Good Food online)
Mango Sorbet (German WW Magazine)
The Table
My new favourite pastel coloured table runner played the main part on last night’s table. I hardly ever use tablecloths or runners, except when I host dinners. This one, though, is a constant accessory, as you might have noticed from the last couple of food posts…
The blue vases, the glass candle holders and the green candles were purchased together with the table runner, as I could totally visualise the whole combination on my table together.
As for the flowers in the little vases, the blue ones I purchased at the market yesterday afternoon, and the green ones were a hostess gift from my helping friend. The two went together beautifully, I think.
The blue and green picture frames I bought on sale a couple of weeks ago, also with that particular table scenario in mind. Instead of pictures I displayed the menu in them.
As guest favours I had little organic chocolate bars, all different ones, that looked and sounded yummy: raspberry, blueberry, mango, and coconut & pineapple.

Sounds and looks heavenly civilised! Love the idea of mustard chicken. I’ve never tried that. As I’ve been hankering after a recipe to use my Dijon – sitting unused – I might just Google.
Thank you, it was
. I love this mustard chicken and make it quite often. I’ve also been meaning to post it for some time now but never managed to take proper pictures. Will probably do a post on it very soon.
Thanks for letting me know. Shall look forward to trying yours.
Everything looks amazing!
Thank you very much!
Wish I could have been there…
You will be soon
I just stumbled upon your blog… beautiful! I’d come back soon for sure
Thank you very much & welcome!
that table looks amazing
Thank you very much! I really love it, too, (obviously
) and will definitely do something with these same accessories again.
Looks like it was quite an evening.. beautiful atmosphere and food. I’ve so loved perusing the Ottolenghi cookbook but have yet to make something from it. Now I’m inspired. I’ll have to wait till I’m back as the book is in Hamburg.
Pictures are all super. Are those diptychs on LR or stomped? What’s your secret?
I would love to be invited to a meal at your house!
My reply is going to be longer than your comment
1. It WAS a really nice evening. This was only the second time I made something from the Ottolenghi cookbook but am aiming to try more as I have bookmarked about half the book…
2. I think I’m getting older faster than I thought because I have no idea what stomped means with regards to photos. Had to google it and still didn’t find anything. HELP!
The pictures are actually diptychs, created in IrfanView.
3. If you’re ever down this way, please do stop by for a meal! I actually thought you were almost at my front door the other day when you said “look forward to heading your way” – until I saw you said “blog way”
uh… that would be blogstomp. It was expensive (50$) for being so simple… but I caved. And diptychs are also still a little new to me- like I thought you only did them in LightRoom. I’ll have to check out IrfanView (no clue what that is). We’ll get there!
